David Jiménez Pinteño (known as David DeMaria) was born in the Spanish town Jerez de la Frontera on 20 January 1976. He was a big fan of music since childhood. When David turned 14, he joined a music band Kelliam 71, which he worked with for almost 6 years. The band copied the songs of their favorite artists, such as The Last of the Row, The Beatles, etc. The group even recorded an album, but it was never published. While working with Kelliam 71, David honed his guitar-playing skills and learned how to perform onstage. When DeMaria was a teenager, he liked such bands as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Clash, and The Rolling Stones. However, he also enjoyed Spanish musicians, such as El Último de la Fila, Mecano, Nacha Pop, and Alejandro Sanz.
When he turned 21, David recorded his first solo album David DeMaría (1997), which included such songs as “Amor multipicado por dos”, “Nuestra historia,” and “Aprendiendo vivir.” Even though the LP didn’t make it into the Spanish charts, it jump started DeMaria’s career.
In 1998, DeMaria signed a contract with a different label and released Soñar Despierto. The LP reached the 87th spot on the Spanish Albums Chart. Among the famous songs from the album were “Perdidamente enamorao” and “Sed de ti.” -
In 2001, David recorded El Color Del Destino, which made it to the 54th spot of the Spanish chart. David’s career was leaping forward so it didn’t come as a surprise when the LP he released two years later, Sin Miedo A Perder (2003), topped the Spanish chart. Two songs from the album "Cada Vez Que Estoy Sin Ti" and "Sin Miedo A Perder conquered the singles chart. The LP was created with Warner Music. David recorded these songs in Madrid and Rome.
The next two LPs Barcos De Papel (2004) and En Concierto: Gira Barcos De Papel (2005) also topped Spanish charts. The singer became so popular that it was almost impossible to book David DeMaria for any private event.
In 2007, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first LP, David released a compilation album La fuerza de la voluntad: Grandes Éxitos. It featured his best hits and three new songs.
In 2013, David released his 11th album Otras vidas, which made it to the second spot of the Spanish chart. David proved that his peak of popularity was far from being over.
David is one of those musicians, who prefer creating music in the solitude of their own room. At first, he comes up with a melody and then writes lyrics. Each song contains a small piece of DeMaria’s feelings and emotions. He continues working on new albums and performs live. -
